NOVEMBER 17, 2007 - Dunedin Lodge No. 192 held its annual Thanksgiving Dinner at the Lodge last Saturday night. A capacity crowd was on hand to enjoy a classic thanksgiving dinner as prepared under the leadership of our Junior Warden, Bro. John Lawless. Several brothers from the Lodge pitched in to lend a hand in the preparations and cleanup afterwards.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Lodge's 2007 "Outstanding Deputy of the Year Award" to Deputy Jason Stibbard from the Patrol Operations Bureau of the Pinellas County Sheriff's Department. The presentation was made by W:.Ken Giesow, PM. On-hand was Depty. Stibbard's immediate superior, Sgt. Borner.

Deputy Stibbard began his career with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office when he was hired as a detention deputy in June of 2000. As a member of the Detention and Corrections Bureau, Deputy Stibbard worked in the County Jail where he worked in the Boot Camp and as a member of the Corrections Response Team. In 2004 Deputy Stibbard sought a transfer to the Patrol Operations Bureau where he was eventually selected for his current assignment to the Community Policing Unit.

Deputy Stibbard has earned a reputation with his coworkers and supervisors as a deputy who focuses on community concerns and who works with city government to seek solutions. During the past year he has also distinguished himself on more than one occasion as a skilled and professional law enforcement officer.

On April 12, 2007 Dep. Stibbard responded to a bank robbery that had just occurred in North Pinellas County. The suspect had managed to flee the area prior to the arrival of responding deputies however Deputy Stibbard took it upon himself to check a local motel in the vicinity of the bank. While doing so, he spoke with the motel clerk who reported having a guest matching the description of the suspect. Upon leaving the motel office, Deputy Stibbard came face to face with the suspect and was able to take him into custody eliciting a confession and recovering the stolen bank funds.

On October 23, 2007 Dep. Stibbard responded to assist with yet another robbery investigation, this time at a convenience store in North Pinellas County. When he arrived in the area, Depty. Stibbard began checking an apartment complex. While doing so, he discovered the getaway vehicle parked in the lot and subsequently arrested both suspects inside a nearby apartment with the assistance of other deputies. Once again all of the stolen money was recovered.

By our award, Dunedin Lodge is again proud to support local law enforcement officials. Well done Deputy Stibbard. Well done.

OCTOBER 30, 2007 - Masons are well known for their philanthropy, donating over two million dollars each day to a wide variety of charities. Locally, Dunedin Lodge No. 192 has been actively supporting the community in 2007. Most recently the Lodge donated Publix gift certificates to help needy kids and families over the Thanksgiving holidays. The certificates were presented to Mrs. Kathy Brickley, Principal of Dunedin Elementary, who will distribute the certificates within the school.

According to Ken Giesow, Program Chairman for the Lodge, "We like to believe our Lodge is an integral part of the Dunedin community and have supported numerous projects over the years. For example, earlier this year, Dunedin Lodge, sponsored a classroom at Dunedin Elementary as part of the fraternity's "Adopt a Class" program. We are also long time sponsors of Dunedin Little League."

The Dunedin Masons also recently opened their doors to the Neighborly Care Network who provides lunches and the "Meals on Wheels" program through the facilities at the Lodge.

"Charity is an important part of Masonic life," said Chris Schlenker, Master of the Lodge. "This year we will have lent support to the Girl Scouts, the Bay Pines VA Hospital, Pinellas County High School graduates, the Diabetes Foundation, the Masonic Home in St. Petersburg, and the Masonic Medical Research Laboratory in Utica, New York. We are also supporting a G.I. Care Package program which sends supplies to our troops in Iraq for the holidays and we're preparing to recognize a Deputy of the Pinellas County Sheriff's Department as 'Deputy of the Year.' The Lodge also plans to donate additional gift certificates for the needy at Christmas time through Dunedin Elementary."

Dunedin Lodge has been a part of the Dunedin landscape since 1916 and is located at 1297 Michigan Boulevard. Their web page is: dunedin192.org
